Consolidating Partnerships for Peace: Dr. Paterne Zinsou’s Mission in Brazzaville

Brazzaville, Republic of Congo — From November 26 to 29, 2024, Dr. Paterne Zinsou, the Regional Secretary General (SG) of the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) and Coordinator of the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (AIPP) in Africa, conducted a mission in Brazzaville, Congo. This mission aimed to strengthen partnerships, prepare for upcoming UPF events, and engage with national leaders and institutions.

1. Meeting with the Prefect of the Brazzaville Department

On November 27, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., Dr. Paterne Zinsou met with the Prefect of the Brazzaville Department, Ambassador for Peace Pierre Cebert Ibocko Onangha, along with his cabinet and the focal point for organizing the 10th Peace Road in April 2025.

UPF Congo Chapter SG Clément Tsana introduced the delegation during the meeting and praised the Prefect for his hospitality. Dr. Zinsou shared updates on the upcoming World Peace Summit in Seoul (April 2025), plans for the 10th edition of the Peace Road in Brazzaville (July 2025), and the possibility of launching the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (AIPP) in the Congolese parliament.

2. Meeting with the President of the Senate

Dr. Zinsou also met with the President of the Senate, Venerable Pierre Ngolo, to deliver an official invitation to the World Peace Summit in Seoul. He emphasized the role of former Ambassadors for Peace and their continuous support for UPF activities.

The discussion highlighted:

The potential launch of the AIPP in both chambers of parliament in early 2025.

Congo’s exemplary role in Africa through its organization of Peace Road activities.

Dr. Zinsou requested the Senate’s support and participation in the 10th Peace Road event and expressed his desire to attend the official 66th Republic Day ceremony. The Senate President warmly welcomed these requests and instructed his team to ensure coordination.

3. Meeting with the President of the National Assembly

The delegation was also received by the President of the National Assembly. In his presentation, Dr. Zinsou:

Introduced UPF’s mission and associations, with a focus on the AIPP and its importance in parliament.

Highlighted the possibility of Congo hosting the inaugural AIPP Assembly, joining 21 other African nations already part of this network.

Showcased a video presentation of global AIPP activities.

The President of the Assembly, visibly moved by the presentation, asked: “How can we move Congo out of provisional AIPP status?” Discussions concluded with a photo session in the hemicycle lobby.

4. Participation in the 66th Anniversary of the Republic

On November 28, 2024, Dr. Zinsou and his delegation attended the 66th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic of Congo at the invitation of the presidents of both parliamentary chambers. During this event, Dr. Zinsou reinforced the importance of Peace Road initiatives and the role of Congo in advancing peace on the continent.

5. Luncheon Hosted by the Senate

Following the Republic Day ceremony, the Senate, under the direction of its President, hosted a luncheon for the Regional SG at Restaurant La Cascade. Parliamentarians and Ambassadors for Peace encouraged Dr. Zinsou to leverage diplomatic efforts to involve Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso in the 2025 World Summit, given his influence in peace and environmental advocacy.

6. Meeting with Former UPF Congo Chapter Chairman, Maurice Nguesso

Dr. Zinsou met with Patriarch Maurice Nguesso, a former UPF Congo Chapter leader, trained in the Divine Principle, and decorated as an Ambassador for Peace. This meeting was part of Dr. Zinsou’s mission to strengthen relationships and report back to UPF International.

7. Prayer and Youth Engagement

On the evening of November 28, 2024, Dr. Zinsou held a prayer session in the Cheonshim Won Room, offering gratitude for the success of his mission. Following the prayer, he met with members of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFPMU) youth group to offer guidance and encouragement.

8. Farewell Luncheon at Twin Towers

On November 29, 2024, a joint luncheon was hosted by the National Assembly and the UPF Congo Chapter at the Twin Towers. This event celebrated the success of the Regional SG’s mission, marked by a cake-cutting ceremony symbolizing victory and unity.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Zinsou urged the UPF Congo Chapter to consolidate its achievements and maintain strong collaboration with national authorities. He expressed gratitude to all participants and extended his encouragement to continue working for peace.

As Dr. Zinsou departed Brazzaville, he was accompanied to the airport by parliamentarians and Ambassadors for Peace, symbolizing the strong bonds forged during his mission.

Conclusion

Dr. Paterne Zinsou’s mission to Brazzaville was a resounding success, marked by productive meetings with high-level officials and institutions. The engagements underscored Congo’s vital role in advancing peace initiatives in Africa, including the Peace Road and the AIPP.
