Day of Peace in Benin

By UPF Africa

Cotonou, Benin - On September 20, there was a gathering in Cotonou to share about peace and listen to presentations on this year’s topic, "We Must Disarm." The event was held at the Peace Embassy, the headquarters of UPF in Benin, with 350 participants, including former government ministers, religious leaders, and NGO leaders. At 12:00 noon, a moment of silence was observed in memory of all peacemakers and UN volunteers who have passed away and those who continue to work on the front line.

Before this date, UPF sent messages to churches asking to them to dedicate their Sunday worship on September 20 to peace.

On September 21, UPF and Ambassadors for Peace joined the United Nations Development Programme and the Benin government at the National Assembly to celebrate this day and launch a Peace Week from September 21 to 27, with the closing ceremony schedule to take place in the Presidency. UPF was part of the Organizing Committee for this event.

UPF is very touched that for the first time the Benin government celebrated this International Day of Peace at a national level.
