LAUNCH OF IAPP IN NIGER

Establishment of the International Association Parliamentarians for Peace

 Niamey, Niger – The official opening ceremony of the Niger Branch of the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP) was held on Saturday 12 June 2018 in the Niger National Assembly under the patronage of Speaker of the House Ousseini Tini.

About 200 participants attended the ceremony. They include Prime Minister Brigi Rafini, the heads of Niger's main institutions, 15 government ministers, members of parliament, members of the Youth Parliament Office, several former ministers and parliamentarians, religious leaders, traditional chiefs , women leaders, and major figures in the art world. The ceremony was broadcast on 13 television channels, including two international networks and four national radio stations.

The welcome speech was given by Hon. Amina Balla Kalto, fifth Vice President of the Niger National Assembly. She was replaced by her Kassoum Yacouba Maiga, National Coordinator of IAPP-Niger and Chair of the Organizing Committee. Dr. Paterne Zinsou, secretary general of UPF West Africa, gave a background presentation on IAPP. UPF International President Dr. Thomas Walsh delivered the keynote address. The 13 members of parliament, staff of IAPP, were formally introduced to the Prime Minister and the Presidium of the Niger National Assembly. They took the oath of office administered by IAPP-Niger Chair, Hon. Iro Sani, First Vice-Chair of the Niger National Assembly.

The fouding resolution of IAPP was read by Honorable Fassouma Oumarou Nana. It was signed by members of parliament and other dignitaries.

Several high-ranking officials have been appointed Ambassadors for Peace on this occasion. Each one took it as an order for a new mission. These were the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Prime Minister, the First Vice-President of the National Assembly, the Minister for Institutional Affairs, the Minister for Tourism and Crafts, and the First Vice-President Kassoum Yacouba Maiga. Responsible for coordinating IAPP-Niger.

The IAPP-Niger opening ceremony marked the mobilization of the people and their governments and honored the gathering with their attendance. All participants were very satisfied with the ceremony. Members of parliament expressed their delight at the establishment of this parliamentary institution, which will be officially registered in the network of Niger parliaments. Authorities representing the entire country were present at its inception.
