Nigeria ― In September 2024, UPF Nigeria leveraged the UN International Peace Day as an opportunity to inspire Ambassadors for Peace (AFP) to initiate, organize, and sponsor peace-promoting projects in their communities. Information was shared with AFP coordinators across various states, encouraging them to commemorate Peace Day under the theme “Building a Culture of Peace.”
Initially, Rivers, Niger, Borno, and Kano States began preparing activities, but only Rivers and Kano successfully held events. In Rivers State, UPF Nigeria collaborated with the Rotary Club to organize a Peace Day celebration on September 21. The event included a conference on building a culture of peace and the installation of a peace-promoting billboard in the city center of Port Harcourt.
These efforts marked a significant step in fostering community-based peace initiatives and spreading UPF’s mission of building a culture of peace across Nigeria.
