Dakar, Senegal — On Saturday, November 9, 2024, the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) Senegal organized a seminar at the socio-cultural center of Yoff in Dakar. This gathering aimed to strengthen the capacities of Peace Ambassadors and provide future Peace Ambassadors with a better understanding of their mission and responsibilities. The event also marked a turning point for UPF Senegal, as it sought to reinvigorate national activities and bring new energy to the organization.
Under the coordination of Dr. Abdou Gaye, the seminar brought together 21 participants from various social, religious, and cultural backgrounds. These individuals represented an invaluable diversity of perspectives and experiences. Among the attendees were representatives of the Lébou community, one of Senegal's historic ethnic groups, as well as religious leaders, community and environmental advocates, former civil servants, neighborhood representatives, and renowned figures in Senegalese music.
The program, held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., unfolded in an atmosphere of commitment and sharing. Several key themes were addressed, including the ideal and purpose of life, the origins of family conflicts, pathways to achieving peace within families and in the world, and the universal principles underpinning the mission of Peace Ambassadors. These topics, presented by various speakers, sparked rich and constructive discussions.
One notable feature of the seminar was the predominant use of Wolof, which allowed participants to internalize better the concepts discussed. The exchanges revealed a broad understanding of the principles presented, although certain nuances sparked debates, particularly on religious topics such as the "fall." However, there was unanimous agreement on the importance of inner peace as a foundation for lasting peace in society.
Participants especially appreciated the relevance of topics related to blessings and cultural and religious practices. For example, the Layenne community, known for its joint wedding celebrations, was highlighted as an illustration of the convergence between local traditions and universal principles. Special attention was also given to the designation of the UPF founders as "True Parents." While the term prompted some debate, it was widely accepted as a well-deserved recognition of their dedication to humanity.
The seminar concluded on a note of hope and determination. Dr. Abdou Gaye expressed his enthusiasm by describing this new group of Peace Ambassadors as the "second generation." He emphasized their potential to uphold the ideals of UPF and revitalize the organization in Senegal. Dr. Davega also encouraged the participants to invest fully in this mission, urging them to become key actors in promoting peace and family values.
This seminar represents an important step in UPF Senegal's efforts to reaffirm its role within local communities. With a renewed and determined group of Peace Ambassadors, the organization aims to strengthen its impact and actively contribute to peace and social cohesion in the country.
