Lomé, Togo―On August 31, 2024, the Peace Road 2024 celebration was held at the Elie Palace Hotel in Lomé, Togo. Due to ongoing security concerns, particularly the threat of jihadist attacks in the northern region of the country, public gatherings on the streets were prohibited. Despite efforts to secure permission for a symbolic march on a short stretch of public road, the authorities denied the request for security reasons.

As a result, the event was restructured as a public conference at the hotel. However, to preserve the spirit of the Peace Road, participants symbolically walked 50 meters on the hotel’s paved outdoor esplanade before entering the conference room to begin the official program.

Among the notable attendees were a representative of the Golfe 5 Municipality (the Mayor was unavailable due to health issues), local traditional chiefs, Ambassadors for Peace, and two local artists who performed at the event. A brass band added a lively musical touch to the occasion. The event was covered by TVT (national television) and Togo Press, bringing media attention to the celebration.

An estimated 100 people participated in the event.

The program began with a symbolic peace walk that led the participants into the conference hall. A welcome speech was delivered by the representative of the Mayor, followed by a presentation on the context and objectives of Peace Road by the Secretary General of UPF, which emphasized the vision of the founders. An Ambassador for Peace then briefly introduced UPF and its mission.

A significant moment of the event was the nomination of five new Ambassadors for Peace, who were recognized for their dedication to promoting peace. The program continued with a congratulatory and motivational address by the National Leader of UPF Togo.

The event concluded with the release of white doves and balloons, carrying peace messages, symbolizing the hope for peace and unity. The day ended with a group photo, capturing the spirit of the occasion.
