Promoting Peace On The UN Internaional Day Of Peace: UPF Nigeria's Commemorative Events

In Niger State, Amb. Fatima Mama Ibrahim, the State Coordinator, and Amb. Abdulmumini Salau, the Secretary of the Niger State UPF Committee, orchestrated a significant event. This gathering served a dual purpose: the induction of new Ambassadors for Peace and strategic discussions regarding the Inauguration of the Peace Council in Niger State. The event was graced by Ambassadors for Peace from Niger State and a representative of the Governor. Notable attendees included the Governor of Niger State, represented by Hon. Gen. Muhammad Abdullahi Bello, Commissioner for Homeland Security, and Mrs. Mary, the Special Adviser to the Governor. Dr. George Ikpot, UPF's Secretary General, delivered an enlightening lecture on the Five Principles of Ambassadors for Peace, emphasizing the significance of inner peace as the foundation for global harmony. Messages of goodwill and commitment to collaborate with UPF for peace and development were expressed by dignitaries.

Nigeria - On the 21st of September 2023, the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) in Nigeria came together in a remarkable display of commitment to peace, commemorating the UN International Day of Peace across three Nigerian states. Under the theme "Action for Peace: Our Ambition for the Global Goals," these events showcased the organization's dedication to fostering harmony and cooperation.

Event Locations :

Niger State: The event in Niger State was hosted at the prestigious Hon. Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi International Conference Center, Minna.

Rivers State: In Rivers State, the Golden Tulip Hotel, Evo Road in New GRA, Port Harcourt, provided a fitting backdrop for the proceedings.

Borno State: The commemoration in Borno State took place in Maiduguri, the state's capital.

Niger State Event

Palliatives were presented to the community as a demonstration of peace and harmony through acts of kindness. A poetry competition among students from different schools addressed the theme of peace, with rewards for exceptional poems. Notable individuals, including the Governor of Niger State, were inducted as Ambassadors for Peace. The event concluded with closing prayers and a courtesy visit by UPF officials to the Commissioner for Homeland Security.

Rivers State Event

In Rivers State, under the guidance of Amb. Arinzay Akupue, the State Coordinator, a one-day event was orchestrated to commemorate the UN Peace Day. This event took the form of a peace walk conducted in collaboration with esteemed partners, including the Rotary Club Nigeria, The Peace Corps of Nigeria, Relief International Africa, and the Nigeria National Peace-building Conflict Prevention Committee.

Participants embarked on a peace walk from Garrison to the Back of SPAR, Old GRA, in Port Harcourt. The walk, which commenced at 7 AM, symbolized unity and determination towards promoting peace within the community. At 4 PM, a Peace Symposium took center stage at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Port Harcourt. This part of the event provided a platform for open dialogue on various peace-related topics. The symposium allowed participants to engage in meaningful discussions, share their insights, and explore strategies for fostering peace and conflict resolution in our society. The event concluded with group pictures.
