UPF Democratic Republic of the Congo
How UPF Africa promotes peace in Democratic Republic of the Congo
Nation presentation
Situated in the heart of Central Africa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) encompasses a vast land area of approximately 2,344,858 square kilometers and is home to a diverse population with French as the official language. The country's economic landscape is characterized by rich natural resources, including minerals like copper and cobalt, as well as significant agricultural potential. While the mining sector has historically played a crucial role in the DRC's economy, efforts are underway to diversify and promote sectors such as agriculture and energy. The government's commitment to economic transformation is evident in initiatives aimed at reducing dependency on mineral exports and fostering a more balanced and sustainable development path. As one of Africa's vast and resource-rich nations, the DRC is navigating its complex history, embracing diversification, and charting a course toward a more resilient and inclusive economic future in the broader context of emerging African economies.
Presentation of UPF :
In December 2005, the DRC held its first inaugural conference of the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) in Kinshasa under the leadership of Rev. FUTILA Michel, Secretary General, and Professor MABI MULUMBA as Chairman. After him, several other Chairmen succeeded one another in this position (Professor Dr. LONGO MBENZA, Hon. DIUR KATOND, Mr Armand Pierre KANUMUBADI BADIBANGA) under Rev. Michel FUTILA until 2015. In November of the same year, Rev. Jean-Pierre Kadima Mundadi was appointed Secretary General of UPF and Mr. Armand Pierre KANUMUBADI BADIBANGA was reappointed Chairman until 2019, when he passed away and was replaced by the Hon. Dr. Florimond Tshioko Kweteminga. In April 2021, the Hon. KINYAMA Claudel was appointed Secretary General of UPF and remains in office to this day. Since its creation, UPF has had over 700 Ambassadors for Peace. Organizationally, UPF operates at national and provincial levels in Kinshasa and several provinces (Kongo Central, Haut Katanga, Sud-Kivu, Nord-Kivu, Maniema, Tshopo, Kwilu, Kasai Central and Kasai Oriental). UPF-DRC is actively involved in meaningful projects and ongoing initiatives. We are currently supporting the rehabilitation of the Youth General Secretariat offices and the Gama Institute management office. Additionally, we have organized various events centered around PEACE ROAD. Our efforts extend to coaching women leaders and NGO managers. Furthermore, we are dedicated to raising funds to assist displaced families and victims of natural disasters, such as the recent volcanic eruption in GOMA.
