Cotonou, Benin – On September 20, 2025, the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) Africa, in collaboration with its national chapter in Benin, celebrated its 20th anniversary alongside the 45th International Day of Peace in Cotonou.
Held under the theme “As Ambassadors for Peace, let us act now in harmony for the realization of a peaceful world,” the ceremony brought together 130 participants in person and around 400 online via Zoom and UPF Africa’s digital platforms. A local television station covered the event, amplifying its reach through TV and social media.

A Common Commitment to Peace

The ceremony was marked by inspiring addresses from opinion leaders, dignitaries, and committed citizens, all united by a shared vision: to promote peace and mutual understanding across the African continent.
The event highlighted UPF’s commitment to building bridges among cultures and faiths for a harmonious humanity.

Notable Speeches

Dr. Paterne Zinsou, Secretary-General of UPF Africa, captivated the audience by declaring:

“Peace is not merely the absence of war, but the presence of justice, solidarity, and reconciliation.”

Quoting United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, he emphasized the alignment between the missions of UPF and the United Nations, both dedicated to establishing lasting global peace.
A heartfelt tribute was paid to Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, Co-Founder of UPF and affectionately known as the Mother of Peace. Dr. Zinsou reminded participants that UPF, rooted in the love of God and humanity, continues to thrive despite historical challenges, thanks to its foundational values.

H.E. Amadou Diongue, Resident Representative of ECOWAS in Benin and newly appointed Ambassador for Peace, enriched the ceremony with a quotation from the UNESCO Constitution:

“Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace must be constructed.”

His address emphasized the need for a culture of peace based on tolerance and mutual acceptance.

Presentation of Awards

During the event, eight individuals were honored with the title of Ambassador for Peace, and five authorities received certificates of recognition for their significant contributions to building a peaceful nation and world.
These honors reflect UPF’s commitment to recognizing and valuing efforts toward peace and cooperation.

To express their gratitude and share their reflections, the awardees and honorees each took the floor to voice their support for UPF’s ideals. Among the speakers were the Representative of the Mediator of the Republic, the Representative of the Minister of Labor and Public Service (both honorees), and the President of the Ambassadors for Peace of Togo.

Closing Remarks

The ceremony concluded with a profound message from His Eminence Gilbert DAKE, Majesty ABIAKOU DJOKESS KPOTOKAN II, Emperor of the ANA/IFE Peoples of Africa and World President of the Ecumenical Foundation for Peace in Africa (FOPA).
A recognized spiritual leader and distinguished consultant in conflict management and interreligious dialogue, he made a solemn commitment to support UPF’s initiatives for the promotion of world peace.
