Botswana – Despite extreme weather, including rare snowfall in some parts of Botswana on August 31, 2024, the Mayor of Francistown, a Member of Parliament, along with religious leaders and Peace Ambassadors, came together to attend the Peace Road Botswana event under the theme "Peace Starts with Me." They worked and walked together until the end of the program, showing great commitment to the cause.
The event began in the early morning of Saturday, 31 August 2024, and included the following key activities:
- The event opened with the National Anthem, sung by all participants.
- A prayer was led by a religious leader, Rev. Mwangamile.
- Opening remarks were given by Rev. William Chimfwembe.
- The Mayor of Francistown delivered the main speech.
- A speech by a Peace Ambassador, Bishop Professor Dr. Rose Kajinga, followed.
Following the speeches, attendees gathered for a group photo, after which they embarked on the symbolic Peace Walk. The walk was a powerful demonstration of solidarity and commitment to peace, with participants enduring the unusual weather to complete the route.
After the walk, certificates were presented to key individuals. The Mayor of Francistown, the Member of Parliament, and the Religious Leader were all honored with Peace Ambassador certificates in recognition of their contributions to peacebuilding efforts.
The event wrapped up with refreshments, offering participants a chance to reflect on the day's activities and celebrate their collective efforts to promote peace in Botswana
